Class of 1958 Biographies

Barbara (Brandes) Brown – Barbara was married in 1960 and gave up a scholarship to Montclair State College. She married Robert Brown a graduate of Passaic High School. Bob was a teacher and now has a worldwide stamp business. Bob and Barbara have two children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. While her husband completed college, Barbara worked as a programmer for TV Guide. When Bob began teaching, they began a family and Barbara did volunteer work. At 34, Barbara got her teaching degree and taught first grade until 2003. Barbara was the second woman to be called as president of her congregation at Shenkel United Church of Christ. She served in this position for two years.

Twelve years ago, Barbara and Bob bought the Lititz, Pennsylvania post office and then purchased a new home to house this set up. They call their home, Brown’s Postal Museum, and conduct tours of their home so that others can see their postal collection. They like to travel and to participate in stamp shows. Barbara is very active in her Red Had Society and has written many songs for this group. We are hoping that she will write a song for our reunion. She graciously volunteered to take charge of our reunion luncheon on Thursday, September 18, the day before the reunion. She has more than 20 signed up for that event. She hopes that more will come.

Robert Johnson – Bob graduated from Delaware Valley College in 1962 with a B.S. degree in Dairy Husbandry. Partnering with his father, he managed a dairy farm in Unadilla, NY for 10 years. In 1972, Bob became a Youth Counselor for the New York Division for Youth. He worked at the Youth Facility for the next 15 years. During this employment, Bob and his wife, Carol, started a business selling woodstoves, gas stoves and fireplaces in Oneonta, NY. This endeavor became full time in 1987, with Carol operating a branch store in Binghamton, NY. In 1991, Bob and Carol bought a waterfront home in Beaufort, NC, leading to the sale of the business in upstate NY. In 1992, they moved to Beaufort and became Manufacturer's Representatives, covering six Southeastern States, for several of the same companies they sold at retail in NY. They continue to be self-employed as Reps choosing their own working schedule. Bob has three sons living in NY, NC and New Mexico, with five grandchildren. Over the years, Bob has competed in sports car racing (he and Carol still enjoy attending NASCAR races), triathlons, running, cycling, and canoeing. Bob and Carol attended the 1988 class reunion and look forward to attending the 50th reunion in September.

Barbara (Van Der Horn) Kaczyk – Barbara retired in 1994 after thirty-five years at Citizens First National Bank. When she retired she was Vice President of the Operations Department. She has lived at her present address in Midland Park since 1964. She was married in 1960 to her first husband who passed away in 1988. She married her current husband in 1993 and traveled with him to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and most of the western USA. Today she is involved in some church activities and she is trip committee planner for her senior group.

Peter Vreeland – Pete has lived in Jacksonville, FL for the past 15 years. He retired after spending most of his life in construction, which included buying houses and remodeling them before selling them again. Before moving to Florida, he spent about 15 years in Mechanicsville, Virginia and prior to moving south, he lived in and around Oakland and Wyckoff. Shortly after graduation he moved to California for four years . He owned apartments in Oakland and had a horse equipment business, Junction Saddlery, in Oakland.

Pete’s been married twice, but now is happily single. Pete enjoys golf, and bowling, watching basketball and his local football team, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Arlene (Nielsen) Bennett – Arlene left RRHS early to start her family; she married Jim Bennett (graduated Ramsey HS 1955) from Wyckoff. In the next eight years their family grew and included Jim, John, Tracy, & Mark. They lived in Wyckoff until the late 60's when they moved out to a five acre farm in rural Unionvlle, NY. Jim went into business for himself, and Arlene worked part-time as a waitress at the Playboy Club in McAfee, NJ. While she was working there, she attempted her hand at skiing, but after the first downhill kitty 'pull', she decided that maybe she wasn't going to make the Olympics.

After being in NY state for seven years, they moved back to Wyckoff, and purchased Itzen & Robertson Construction Co. - Arlene then was managing clothing stores in Closter, Fairlawn and Woodbridge, and was held up at gunpoint at the Woodbridge store. Shortly after that, they moved outside of Cooperstown, NY to a 240 acre farm - and took their hand in raising beef cattle, pigs, ducks, hay and grew everything they ate. Arlene and Jim divorced for a few years, and then remarried. Seven years ago, they retired to Lewes, DE. Jim Bennett passed away two years ago

At present Arlene is taking care of her father, aged 93, in her home. Arlene is a certified Genealogist and is a coordinator of the Newfoundland Gen Web Page. She also spends time gardening, antiquing, rescuing injured wildlife and feral cats. She gets the cats 'fixed' and releases them again. Arlene is a breast cancer survivor having 14 years of a clean bill of health.

Sally Anne (Burgess) Pilcer – After graduation from RRHS, Sally Anne attended Green Mountain College in Vermont. Following graduation from Green Mountain with a degree in pre-nursing, Sally Anne graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford, NJ, with a degree in Nursing and then pursued her education at University of Pennsylvania studying Anesthesia for two years. During her two years in Pa. she married George Breen and in 1964 moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky where she had two children, George IV and Ruth Ellen. After two years in the military the Breen family moved to Oakland where, two years later, Richard was born. She divorced in 1977 and remarried. She is divorced now but she has kept the name Pilcer!

Sally Anne has lived in Oakland since 1966 and has contributed greatly to her community and the children who live(d) there. Sally Anne worked for 26 years as the School Nurse, Health Education teacher at Valley Middle School in Oakland. Her office became the favorite place for the students to visit, to share concerns, cry, and get a hug or just talk (sometimes they were actually sick!). During her tenure at VMS she accomplished lots of stuff. She received two Master’s Degrees, founded the Oakland Education foundation, coached cheerleading, ran a golf club for the students, chaperoned several student activities and class trips, sponsored educational programs for parents, and more.

Sally Anne received a commendation from the Senate of the State of New Jersey for her volunteerism and dedication to her community when she was the honoree at the "foundation's" dinner-dance. A day in May, 2006 was named "Sally Anne Pilcer Day" in the borough of Oakland. Sally Anne has traveled extensively through Europe, the US and the Caribbean, her favorite being a cruise to Alaska. One of her favorite activities, other than spending time with her children and six grandchildren (two more on the way) is golf. While working full-time she managed to post over 100 rounds of golf each year and participated in many tournaments, winning her share of those she entered.

Sally Anne says that she has, "had a full, rich life and has been blessed with much."

James Heath – After graduation, Jim went to Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA to study music. He says that he discovered that he was woefully untalented compared to the other kids who had been born with silver trumpets in their mouths so he worked at Nabisco in Fairlawn till the following fall (‘59). He returned to LVC to study anything but music or, perhaps, Home Ec. This time around he discovered and began a lifelong relationship with running and with a woman, Ellen, who became his wife. He became bored and says that he was about to enter a life of crime when who should come along but Steve Mason. Instead of becoming criminals, though, they became victims; they joined the Coast Guard. He married and served three years in the USCG, and returned to Wyckoff.

He worked as a photographer for a couple years shooting for The Ridgewood Newspapers. He reached the pinnacle on that job when he photographed Richard Nixon. He then went back to LVC and finished his degree in Philosophy and Psychology. All this moving around had him graduating in January of ‘69 and for the 6 months or so before beginning graduate work in psychology at Millersville University, also in PA, he worked as a floor director at WITF-TV (Channel 33) in Hershey. Here he worked on stage managing a show with Taj Mahal and one hosting Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame.

After grad school, Jim went to work at a PA state hospital. That lasted for three years and then he moved to Rhode Island in 1974 and began work as a psychologist in a mental health clinic. That led him into writing a grant and creating and managing a new program in consultation and education service for the community mental health center. Later he created and managed a program for the elderly (that would be us now, folks). Jim retired in 2001 but he missed the world of work. Now he is a supervisor at AAA of Southern New England in Providence. A real plus to this arrangement is that he lives only two miles from work so much of the time, from April through October, he can commute by bike. Now he’s getting close to retiring from full time work again, most likely by the time he sees us in September. But, he says, “ You can bet my plan will include doing something part time, because I can't face sitting around all day being retired.” Jim and Ellen have two children.

In conclusion, Jim says, “Finally, the thing that gets me about this whole reunion extravaganza is that, come September, I'm going to drive from RI to NJ to spend a weekend burning through at least five hundred bucks or so having dinner with a bunch of old people I hardly know. And I have to admit I'm a bit afraid. You see, about 10 years or so ago I had a rendezvous with Steve Mason at his sister‘s house in NJ. It was a great, happy little reunion, yet I drove away with tears in my eyes. What really hit me was that my whole life had gone by and Steve and I missed out on sharing all the many things that have made my life so wonderful. So I don't know how I'll handle being surrounded by all of you after 50 years. Hell, I might even need a therapist. In any case, at least it will be a different sort of weekend. And I'm willing to bet it won't be at all boring.”

Robert Clarke – After graduation from Ramapo, Bob began working in residential construction. He served six years with the New Jersey National Guard. His construction experience led him to work in the commercial construction field, where he worked until his retirement in 2003. He has been a member of Local #15 of the New Jersey Carpenters Union for 45 years and was recently recognized for his years of service. Since 2004, Bob has worked part-time for a local consulting engineer.

He is married to Gail (Johnson, Class of l959). Bob and Gail have three children, Kristin, Amy and Eric, as well as four grand- children, DJ, Austin, Allie, and Logan.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, golf and travel are two of the things Bob enjoys most. Visits to our National Parks rank high on his list of destinations. He and Gail also spend several weeks in Florida each winter. He looks forward to doing more extensive traveling in the future. He does occasional cooking and is particularly proud of his clam chowder.

Life has been good.

Eleanor (Meer) Dallal – In 1958 Elie entered Douglass College (Rutgers Univ.) to study economics. She completed her degree in 1962. In her freshman year, she began dating her future husband, Salim Dallal. They attended Columbia Business School together. Salim began a career in banking and Elie worked as a medical office business manager. They were married in 1965 and settled in their home in Wyckoff. They have one daughter, Nancy, who was born in 1968. Nancy graduated Columbia College in 1989 and received her Ph.D. and works for the university. In 1989 Elli became a certified financial planner. After a number of years in the business, she is semi retired. Salim retired from banking in 2000. They both enjoy traveling, reading, theater, cooking and volunteer work.

Regrettably, they will be out of the country during the time of our class reunion. Elie says, “Please extend my best wishes to all, I am hoping they have a very enjoyable time.”

Nancy (Strickland) Foreit – Nancy married in 1960 and spent the ensuing years raising three children, two girls and a boy, who are all married and have produced six grandchildren and a great grandson. Two of her granddaughters are graduating from High School this year, fifty years after the class of 1958. So, in 2058 they will be reflecting back on their lives, as we are doing in 2008.

After Nancy was divorced she graduated from Antioch University. She has lived in New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Maryland and finally California where she has lived for the past five years.

Nancy spent several years as the Director of a Prison and Jail Ministry in the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania tri-state area, establishing and equipping teams of men and women to serve throughout the region. Then she worked full time as Director of a Short Term Missions organization that she helped establish. Her travels took her to Argentina, Belize, Haiti, Mexico and Panama 22 times. A highlight of those years was a trip down the Pan-American Highway almost to the border of South America. She was transported back in time as she visited many Indian villages. The people there seem to live in a time warp, existing as their ancestors have, for generation after generation. Some of them had never seen a white person! She spent the night in a village, lying outside on a tarp under a palm thatched roof. The family lived in a hut that had a shelf, a plaster bowl and a dented pan. Their food supplies consisted of a small plastic bag of salt, garlic, several chickens and a pig. After preparing and serving dinner at 11 PM---chicken soup with the addition of some type of a root that they dug up out of jungle, the mother and father laid down on an old rusty mattress spring with one thin blanket for padding. Made Nancy think, and sure changed her life!

Charles Shotmeyer – Charles and his wife, Alexandra McGracken of Wyckoff and from the Ramapo class of 1961, raised their six children in Franklin Lakes. Their children are all Ramapo graduates. The six children and nine grandchildren live close by to Charley and Sandy. Charley and Sandy were co-chairs of the Parents Committee of Lehigh University and were involved in the launching of Lehigh’s $500 million capital campaign.

Involved in Boy Scouts since 1948, Charles attended the Jamboree in California as a member of Troop 89. As an adult scouter, he has served as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 77 of Wyckoff where his son, Chuck, is now the Assistant Scoutmaster. His grandson, Jacob, is about to become an Eagle Scout now. Charles has served as President of the Northern New Jersey Council for 2006-2008 (Bergen, Passaic, Essex, and Hudson Counties.)

He is currently serving as Commissioner of the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission, New Jersey’s largest water provider. He has also served as its past chairman. Charley is also a member of the Valley Hospital Foundation Board and participates in several community service organizations.

Harold Galenkamp – Harold Galenkamp has been an elected member of the Wyckoff Township Committee from 1972-1981 and was Mayor in 1974 and 1981. Harold has served his community as a volunteer fireman, as a member of the Bergen County Planning Board; a legislative aide to State Senator Hank Mc Namara [R-40th]; property manager of Willow Pond Farm, Wyckoff and as President of Sicomac Dairy Products, Inc. of Wyckoff from 1960-1985 at which time the business was sold. Harold was elected to serve again as a Township Committeeman in 1992, a position he holds at the present time. Harold served the Township of Wyckoff as Mayor in 1996, 2002, and in 2005. Harold and his wife Jeannine reside at 511 Sicomac Ave. in Wyckoff. Harold has two daughters, Heidi Misovic and Heather Borst. Heidi and her husband Stephen have two daughters, Emelia and Molly. Heather and her husband Mark have three children, Erin, Sara and Nathaniel. His children live in Wyckoff.

Evelyn Gaire – After high school, Evelyn spent 10 years working for Sabena Airlines, she enjoyed it very much and traveled extensively. She met her husband in 1970 and lived in Southern California and in Tucson, Arizona. She enjoyed working with the San Diego Opera and when in Tucson, working with the Tucson Museum of Art which included being Co-Chair of the Dinner A L'Art (a large fundraiser for the Museum). She played lots of golf and hosted many dinner parties. When she was married, Evelyn and her husband traveled to Europe and China. She is now divorced after 36 years of marriage and she is enjoying her life in Palm Desert California. Evelyn is helping with the calling of classmates.

Carolyn (Jones) Arvenitis – Carolyn was a Visiting Nurse in New Hampshire for 12 years, leaving in 1987. She took a couple of years off and then worked for a bank heading up the Mortgage Department for the last two years that she worked there. She has been divorced since 1992 and she moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 1995 to assist her parents until her Dad's death in 2002. Her Mom then moved in with her and they relocated back to NH in 2002. Her mom passed away in February of this year at the age of 93. Carolyn has a daughter, Maria, who is 43 and divorced, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth, 20 1/2 and a junior at the University of New Hampshire. She has a son, Christopher, 37 who is married and has two children, Benjamin 6 1/2 and Isabella 3 years. Her daughter lives in NH and her son lives in Colorado. Carolyn regrets that she will not be able to attend the reunion.

Ken Hoffman – After leaving Ramapo, Ken spent the next five years earning a degree in Civil Engineering at Cornell University. Then came two years as a recruit in the Army where he was assigned to a desk job in Arlington, Virginia. This was within walking distance of all the tourist attractions along the Mall in Washington, D.C. which helped make his military tour of duty pass quickly. In September of 1968, Ken headed west for a job with the U.S. Forest Service in Grand Marais, Minnesota on the shore of Lake Superior. This area had been recommended to him by his friend, Fred Young. After three years Ken quit the Forest Service, moved to rural Duluth to take classes at the University of Minnesota, and found a job in Duluth. While in Duluth he met a local girl, Molly, and he finally married at the ripe old age of 33. In 1980 Ken and Molly moved back to the Grand Marais area where they have lived ever since.

Although Ken could have spent all his time exploring the woods and lakes with Molly and his dog friends, he knew that at least some income was necessary. He and Molly started their own survey business. This meant they could set their own hours and leave time for other things. Having the time, they built their own small (16’ x 24’) house with hand tools. To keep it simple the house has solar electricity and no running water. They also have gardens and grow enough food to have had to dig a root cellar for storage. They have, for various spans of time, kept bees for honey and tapped their own maple trees for syrup. As an end of the road community, Grand Marais has its own art colony, playhouse, folk school, dance school, community radio, and lots of other organizations to be involved in. Ken and Molly have volunteered at the community radio station, the nursing home, the folk school, the whole foods cooperative, and most recently have been producing a number of field guides to flowers, birds, trees and shrubs, ferns, mushrooms, etc… for a young environmental non-profit, Harbor Friends.

Bernard Schnaudt – Bernie began high school at Ramapo, but is a graduate of Jersey Preparatory School. He received his degree in Graphic Arts from New York City College of Technology. He also attended Rutgers University, where he majored in Business Administration. Bernie retired in 2003 after 47 years in the Graphic Arts and Mailing industry. He spent 32 ½ years with CBS Corporation where, for the last 22 years, he was Manager of the Corporate Printing and Distribution Services Department in Manhattan. While working in Manhattan, he also graduated from the Graphic Arts Institute of America as a “Certified Printing Executive.” Bernie also served two terms as president of IPMA (In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association) and was awarded the designation of “Certified Graphic Communications Manager.” He also twice received the “Fellowship Award’ from the New York Club of Printing House Craftsmen for “distinctive service and contributions to furthering education within the graphic arts industry.”

Bernie and his wife of 42 years (Joanne Walton of North Haledon) moved to the Greenbriar Oceanaire Golf and Country Club at the Jersey Shore when they retired, after living in Prospect Park for 4 years and West Milford Township for 33 years. They have two married sons, Steven and David, and one beautiful two-year-old granddaughter, Aubrie. Both Bernie and Joanne remain active volunteers in their church and community in their retirement. They enjoy traveling in the United States and in Europe. They are looking forward to the Ramapo HS reunion and are grateful for the invitation to attend.

Fred Young – After high school, Fred bummed around for a while and then attended Paul Smith College in the Adirondacks. He ended up at Michigan Tech in Northern Michigan and studied forestry; this is what Fred has his degree in. He minored in Biology and Geology. Right after graduation he spent four months paddling a canoe in Northern Michigan with the BWCA. After this he began to work for the National Park Service. He has worked in the Everglades National Park, Lake Mead in the National Recreation area in Arizona, Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior, and at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Park in Munsing, Michigan. He met his wife, Marcia, on an isolated island in Lake Superior. They have two sons, Fred and Parker. Fred lives in Seattle and Parker travels.

Fred retired ten years ago yet he is never bored a minute. He and Marcia have traveled extensively through Europe and have seen every state except Alaska. He volunteers as a teacher of geology in the schools, kayaks, walks, bicycles, gardens, and loves to take pictures and paint with watercolors. He loves living with nature. He started making rustic twig furniture and sells his pieces at art fairs and galleries. One of his works of art, a king sized bed, has been featured in the magazine Log Home Living. Fred and Marcia plan to be at the reunion.

Cean (Bredimus) Molinari – Cean writes, “A lot can occur in fifty years. As for most of us, after high school and college the essential learning began.” Cean and her husband Terry live in coastal Georgia outside of Savannah after fourteen years in Phoenix, Arizona. Where and how they have lived suggests a confused mingling of Girl Scout and gypsy genes: urban and rural, desert and coastal, they’ve loved it all. Their sons visit as often as possible.

Cean’s most alarming learning experiences were being mugged in the Bronx and being nominated as a mayoral candidate in upstate New York. She didn’t give up the money, but she did give up the opportunity for a political career.

She says that her resume resembles a maze more than a career path. She’s tried everything from Outreach counselor to spa manager, but she always came back to floral design. Her life of flowers has opened doors to a Who’s Who of American Life. She has designed arrangements and events for the famous and infamous. Elizabeth Kubler Ross, the founder of Hospice to Jenna Jaimeson, the darling of porn have been clients of hers. She has designed for the icons of the design world, sports stars, television and radio personalities, politicians and philanthropists including runway backdrops, balls and fetes, photo shoots, museum endowments and, once, all the dressing room arrangements for “The Rolling Stones.” She says, “Altogether it has been a behind the scenes fast lane career. What a delightful surprise for a slow lane girl. I am grateful to have grownup in the fifties. That time and those friends remain the gold standard for me.” Maybe Cean will add some of her expertise to our reunion. Hope that she brings some portfolios for us to see.

James Yeomans – Jim joined the army right after high school. He put in his two years and married his Oakland childhood sweetheart, Priscilla, from the class of 1959. He joined the Oakland Police department and built houses on the side. He moved out of Oakland and bought a dairy farm in New York State. He tried farming for seven years but sold it. At that time he moved to Hardwick in New Jersey. He went back into building and worked as a constable in Hardwick as a CD, DC, director and zoning officer. This is now the emergency managing director. His wife was a floral designer until 2002 in Blairestown, NJ. Priscilla and Jim have two children and seven granddaughters who live in Pennsylvania. Jim likes to visit his family and watch his granddaughters grow; two will begin college this year. He will be married for 48 years this year. His hobby was racing standard bred horses in NJ, PA, and NY until 2002 when he sold the horses. He has a summer place at Lake Ontario where he is a charter boat captain. He takes people fishing.

Bonnie (Darby) Donwen – Soon after graduating from Bucknell, Bonnie married fellow Bucknellian, Jon Hutchinson. They moved to Drexel Hill, PA where their first son, Jim, was born. From there they moved to Orlando, FL and then back to NJ where their youngest son, Jon, was born. In 1976 Bonnie married Bill Donwen and moved to Dallas, Texas where they live today. Bill and Bonnie have done lots of traveling especially through Europe and the USA. Bonnie plays lots and lots of tennis and has been active as a volunteer for any worthy causes-mainly animal welfare and politics. Since Bill retired 14 years ago, they have enjoyed spending time at their other homes in Destin, FL and Kapalua, HI on the island of Maui.

Their sons live close by so they see them and their four grandchildren 3 to 14 years old frequently. Bonnie likes to read and to do aerobics and yoga. Bill is a gourmet cook and enjoys working on the computer. Bonnie says, “Life has been pretty good the past 50 years despite a few health episodes. We are looking forward to many more years of good times. Hope to see you all in September.

Louise Lunde – Louise moved to California after living in NYC for sometime. She met her first husband, Lance Henriksen who has been in over 90 Hollywood films. (Look for his biography on the internet and you will see the films that he appeared in, you will probably recognize some of them. Louise says that she hasn't seen them. Louise says, “I was divorced, married and divorced.” She says that at one time she found herself in Berkeley, CA with four boys, their friends, and various animals. Sometimes she took courses at UC Berkeley. She worked for sometime in San Francisco in advertising and public relations. When her children grew up, Louise left for Las Vegas, after trying Los Angeles and Santa Barbara for a year or two. She didn't like either place. She does like Las Vegas. She moved there on a shoe string. She got a job in the retail world. Within two years she got her real estate license. Louise says that she does well, but it is an up and down business. She also has a part time retail job at the Forum Shops, at Caesar’s Palace three nights a week from 5-1 PM. Louise hopes to be able to see us at the reunion.

Mary (Hone) Messaros – Mary worked in a bank until 1962, when she married Cliff, a Wyckoff guy. They bought an old farm house in Mahwah, and had fun collecting antiques. They raised their children there, four girls and three boys. When their youngest started school, Mary went to work in the office of the family business. She has been there ever since, but now, only two days a week.

In 1988 they bought a farm in N.E. Pennsylvania. It started out as a weekend getaway, but 10 years ago they decided to work less and spend more time there. Her youngest son works in film and TV. He wrote and directed his first film, and filmed it at the farm. Mary says, “It was very interesting to watch it being filmed, and getting to know the cast and crew.”

Mary and Cliff have 3 horses, and spend many hours riding in the mountains near by. Mary also enjoys hiking and gardening. She is one of those strange people who looks forward to winter, especially the weekly ski trips to VT.

They aren't world travelers, but they have enjoyed ski trips and horseback riding trips to the Western states and Canada. They also took a trip to Ireland. Five of their children still live in NJ, and two have settled in Washington State. The children have given them 8 grandchildren. They love going to Washington to visit their kids and 2 grandchildren. Their son lives on an island and their daughter lives near the mountains, so they get to explore the best of both worlds. This is the year that they plan to leave busy NJ, and become full time PA residents.

Carol (Henry) Opper – Carol graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in English and Social Studies. She taught in NJ for four years; one year in high school, one year in Junior High, and two years in fourth grade. She was married to John Hatch in 1964 and they were married nineteen years. They had four children, Lori, Beth, Julie, and John. When her third child was born, she moved to California. She has lived there for the past 38 years. Carol worked for Atari and IBM as an administrative assistance. Now she owns a housekeeping business with her daughter called Carol’s House Cleaning Business. She has seven grandsons, ages two to seventeen. When she was 50, she became Mrs. Opper. Now she likes to read, watch TV, walk, play Pinochle and Bridge, go to the theater, and ballroom dance. Her goal now is to find a companion who has many of the interests that she has.

Mary Ann (Smelik) Pruiksma – Three weeks following graduation from RRHS, Jim and Mary Ann were married. They had been going together for two years. Their parents said they were “too young” and would not sign permission forms in New Jersey, so they eloped to Rocky Mount, North Carolina and were married on July 15, 1958.

Jim was in the Navy, his home port being Newport, Rhode Island. We lived in Brocton and Boston, Massachusetts for eighteen months while he was in the service. After Jim was discharged from the Navy, they bought a house in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, and lived there for six years.

They then moved to Hartford, New York and bought a farm, built a house on a hill and raised a family, living there for 40 years. Mary Ann worked for Mallincrodt Medical for 23 years in the Quality Control Division and as a Laboratory Technician. She retired from there when the company moved to Mexico. For a time she worked as a prep cook at an Applebee’s Restaurant. Jim and Mary Ann retired three years ago to Waynesboro, Virginia where they are very happy and comfortable. Now Mary Ann enjoys working part-time at a nursing home as a cook.

They have been blessed with six wonderful children, 3 boys and 3 girls. All are married and have given them 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Jim and Mary Ann will renew their wedding vows and celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 15th in Lake George, New York, with their family and friends in attendance.

Diane Smith Pruiksma, Elaine Burns and Mary Ann are still friends and talk to each other often. Life has been good to them.

Janet (Katje) Goodman – Janet graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in English and Spanish four years after graduating from high school. She taught English and Spanish I at Anthony Wayne High School in Wayne, NJ for four years. At that time she left teaching for a while to raise her two children, a boy and a girl. Later she moved to California and taught Spanish to pre-school children. After doing that for a while, she decided to try secretarial school and she held various secretarial jobs for big companies. Janet is active with the First Four Square Church in Van Nuys, California. She is involved with their prayer ministry. Her son lives in North Hollywood and her daughter lives in Oregon. She has four granddaughters and one grandson. In her spare time she likes to critique movies. She is looking forward to the class reunion followed by a family reunion.

Lois (Levy) Stammer – Lois is married to her high school boyfriend, Skip, and they have two sons Russ and Steve. Russ and his wife live in Oakland with their two grandchildren, Katie & Jon. Steve and his wife, Angie, live in Illinois which Lois says is much too far away. Skip and Lois are still working with no plans to retire. Although Lois still keeps her real estate broker's license active, she had obtained her insurance license a number of years back & has been working as an account manager in an agency in Hackensack. Her plan was to have a family while she was young and then travel but they had a trip of a lifetime many years ago when a friend gave all four of them an all expense paid trip to visit him in Australia. Besides ballroom dancing which they have enjoyed for the past 18 years, Lois loves football and she always has to be reading-usually a couple of books at a time.

Elizabeth (Rothwell) Meyers – After graduating from RRHS, Betty worked in the Wyckoff Bank and then she worked at other secretarial jobs. He retired from teaching in June of 2006, and was all set for a Fall of leisurely research and learning to play bluegrass banjo when he got a call asking if he would be the Interim Director of the Arecibo Observatory for six months while they had a search for a permanent Director. When his wife asked, "What on Earth would you want to do that for?" he replied: "It will look good on my resume."

Joyce Ann (Toth) Van Dyke – attended Montclair State after graduation pursing teacher certification for high school. She ‘stopped out’ and married her high school sweetheart, Albert Van Dyke (Ramapo’s first graduating class of 1957) and had three children ( 6 grandchildren). She resumed her studies when her children were in high school and graduated with a BA from Ramapo College. Realizing that she already had a houseful of teenagers and no longer wanted to teach that age group, she never left Ramapo College. She became one of the founding members of the Advisement Center at Ramapo College and has served as an Academic Advisor for the last 25 years specializing in counseling the returning adult student. Al and Joyce have never moved far from Wyckoff, residing in the neighboring town of Mahwah since 1965.

Judy (Sietsma) Terbeek – The years flew by after graduating from Ramapo. Judy met her husband, Glen, at Hope College, graduated with a teaching degree, was married and taught school in Michigan. Judy and her husband lived in Michigan, New York State, and back to Michigan where their sons were born. They moved to The Netherlands in l974 and lived near The Hague for three years. What a wonderful experience for a "little N.J Dutch girl"! They returned to the US and made their home in a Chicago, Illinois suburb--for 21 years. They were very involved with international business and traveled to Europe, Australia, Asia, South America, and Japan often. While their sons were in college, they again lived in The Netherlands for three years, and then moved to the UK and lived in Sunningdale (a suburb of Windsor) on the Sunningdale golf course, much to Judy’s husband's delight--for three more years. Then they eventually retired to Hilton Head Island, SC and built a house on the ocean. Life was great, until both of her sons decided to "go west"! One son now lives in Seattle, and the other is married and lives in West Hollywood, California. His wife is an actress. The writing was on the wall, Judy and Glen moved across country to be near their children and bought and remodeled a home in LaJolla, California near San Diego. Glen is a golfer, and Judy enjoys digging in the dirt and trying to keep up with their Portuguese water dog.

Steve Mason – Following graduation from Ramapo, it was off to West Virginia Wesleyan College, about the only place that would take such a marginal student, according to Steve. A great year there was followed by a not-so-great semester at Marietta College (Ohio), another at Fairleigh Dickenson and finally a semester at the University of Pennsylvania (night business school). He says, “I could never get it together enough to graduate from anywhere. Predictably, the United States Government then had plans to draft me, but with some prodding from Jim Heath, we decided to join the US Coast Guard. Alas, I finally managed to graduate from something... boot camp at Cape May, New Jersey!”

That graduation was followed by two years of service which included guarding the south Coast of New Jersey against a Cuban invasion. After the Coast Guard episode, Steve reports that it finally occurred to him that he would have to earn a living or take up a life of crime. He decided on the former, got a commercial pilot's license in 1966, then moved to San Diego and started a flight school. He still has the school which is celebrating 40 years in business next year. He found the woman of his dreams in Southern California; he got married in 1976 and has two grown kids. He also wants us to know that he still has the Studebaker. Now he’s thinking about retiring in Pennsylvania in the next couple of years. As we can see, Steve never lost his sense of humor.
